There’s no better way to close BIFEM 2019 than with festival favourite, the Argonaut String Quartet. This concert presents four metaphysical peregrinations that reimagine the string quartet, all Australian premieres. A festival highlight will be Alvin Lucier’s Vespers, receiving its Australian premiere fifty years after its composition, as the quartet draws on the historic Capital itself in an exploration of space and time. Istanbul-based composer Deniz Nurhat and Chicago-based composer and improvisor Katherine Young make their BIFEM débuts, each with an equally astonishing work. As the sun sets on this seventh edition of BIFEM, audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience a live performance of the legendary US composer Robert Ashley’s String Quartet Describing the Motions of Large Real Bodies.
