The keyboard sees itself through a mirror. The mirror bends. The mirror leans. The mirror faces another mirror. The mirror breaks. Via the music of Simon Løffler, Enno Poppe, Johannes Kreidler and Jenna Lyle, Argonaut and BIFEM alumnus Jacob Abela presents the keyboard through a collection of proverbial mirrors, where technique, timbre, history and mechanics are skewed, broken apart and reassembled with a new identity. Reach presents this reinterpretation of keyboard writing as a collection of queer identities, each piece pointing at a new way of constructing a musical language. Having worked together on 2017 BIFEM, this year’s collaboration between Jacob Abela and USA polymath Jenna Lyle underlines the BIFEM mission to connect creative musicians from around the world.
