Born in 1969 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Michel Décosterd gained his Diploma of Architecture at the Engineering School of Biel in 1994. From 1994 to 1997 he was active as an architect in Germany, working in Berlin and Weimar.
In 1997 he founded the group Cod.Act with his brother André, in which he works as architect and plastician. Since its inception, Cod.Act has collaborated with Jacques Décosterd (1936), engineer, in the fields of industrial computer sciences and automation systems.
Self-taught, Michel Décosterd developed a thorough knowledge in mechanical engineering and machine construction through personal research and learning. He develops and builds machines in his own mechanical workshop.
Cod.Act’s productions have won many awards, including the Excellence Award, Art Division, 18th Japan Media Arts Festival 2014; 1st prize, Concours Culture Numérique 2013, Pour-cent Culturel Migros; Golden Nica Interactiv Art - Ars Electronica 2013, Linz; Grand Prize Art division - 16th Japan Media Arts Festival 2012, Tokyo; Prix CYNEART 2010, Dresden and Prix Culturel 2009 - Banque Cantonale Neuchâteloise, Neuchâtel.
They have toured their productions to festivals and symposia all over Europe as well as to North America and Asia.
