Sound Engineer

Jim Atkins is a sound designer and engineer with over three decades of sound production experience. Jim’s extensive relationship with ELISION began in the 1990s, and has included engineering for most of the group’s commercial releases and recording ELISION’s concerts for broadcast on ABC Classic FM.

Other work includes sound design and/or operation for Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, The Riders, The Flying Dutchman, Nixon in China (Victorian Opera); Bliss, 2013 Melbourne Ring Cycle (Opera Australia), Chroma, Vitesse (The Australian Ballet); Songs From the Middle (Eddie Perfect/ANAM); Pleasure Garden (Sydney Festival); En Masse (Genevieve Lacey/Adelaide Festival Centre/MONA Synesthesia); Acoustic Life of Sheds, Namatjira (Big hArt); and Myer Music Bowl Free Concerts (MSO), plus over 100 CD recordings with artists including Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian String Quartet, Brandenburg Orchestra, Genevieve Lacey, Karen Sharpe, Flinders Quartet, Trinity College Choir, Ros Bandt, Andrea Keller and David Hobson. Awards include Conversations with Ghosts - Aria for best live music recording (Paul Kelly, Genevieve Lacey, Jim Ledger, ANAM musicians); Simple Gifts - Aria Best Classical recording (Yvonne Kenny, MSO); Tansman Collected Orchestral Works – Awarded the French Diapason d’or in France (MSO, Oleg Caetani).
