Benjamin Marks is a Brisbane-based freelance musician. As a member of ELISION since 1996, Marks has been involved in many performances and international tours. Recording projects including the KAIROS release of chamber music by Brian Ferneyhough, and a seminal and influential CD of solo and chamber music for brass featuring compositions of Richard Barrett, Aaron Cassidy, Klaus K Hübler and Timothy McCormack on the CeReNeM label, HCR (Huddersfield Contemporary Records).
Marks also performs with ensembles throughout Australia and Asia including Camerata of St. Johns, the Singapore Symphony and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He recently premiered Ann Cleare’s triple concerto “To Another of that Other” with the RTÉ Orchestra in Dublin. Ben regularly gives solo recitals throughout Australia and has been a guest performer at the Australian Chamber Music Festival, Melbourne International Brass Festival and Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music. Recently he has been a guest conductor of Kupka’s Piano and is composing a sequence of outdoor works entitled “The Circular Ruins” as part of his doctoral research. He is currently teaching trombone at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and directs the QLD Conservatorium Brass Ensemble.
