Alister Barker


Cellist Alister Barker has performed extensively in Europe, Australia and Taiwan. Since returning to Melbourne in 2005, Alister has performed with the Victorian Opera, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the ASTRA Chamber Choir and as a member of the Monash Academy Ensemble. Alister has frequently collaborated with pianist Michael Kieran Harvey to perform and record new music for cello and piano and gives regular recitals with his wife, cellist Chien-Hsiu Ong. 

Alister studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with cellists Kim Dinitzen and Karine Georgian and also attended the Australian National Academy of Music between 2007 and 2009 as a student of Howard Penny and Nicholas Bochner.  Passionate about music education, Alister has taught extensively in both the UK and Australia.
