Madi Chwasta is a percussionist based in Melbourne. She is currently on a full scholarship at the University of a Melbourne under the tutelage of Eugene Ughetti, and has previously studied under Peter Neville and Sergei Golovko.
Her dedication and passion for percussion has seen her succeed in various national and local competitions. In 2011, she received first prize at the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod for Snare Drum, 4-Mallet Marimba and Timpani, and in 2014 she was a semi-finalist in the Australian Marimba Competition.
She has also been a regular participant in the Speak Percussion Emerging Artists Programs, in 2011, 2012 and 2015, where she has collaborated with members of Speak Percussion and other emerging artists from around Australia on various chamber music and solo projects. Madi was also selected to perform in both the VCE Top Class and Top Acts Season of Excellence in 2013 based on her VCE music recital. She has also performed with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Orchestra, the Australian Conservertoire of Ballet Orchestra and the University of Melbourne Orchestra. Madi has also performed as a soloist with the Kooyong Chamber Players. As well as performing classical music, Madi also performs with the indie-pop band The Darjeelings.
