Laura Tanata completed her Masters of Music Performance at the Australian National University School of Music in 2007 under the tuition of harpist Alice Giles.
Laura has been a member of the Seven Harp Ensemble (SHE) since the early 2000s. In 2005, SHE was invited to perform at the American Harp Society 37th National Conference in San Francisco and toured regional NSW preceding this prestigious event. Since then, SHE has undertaken further performances in regional Australia and Beijing, and released an album with Tall Poppies.
Between 2007 and 2010, Laura was involved with the Griffyn Ensemble, an active Canberra-based ensemble with a passion for presenting rarely performed works and new music. The group often took on the challenge of re-arranging set works to suit the ensemble.
In 2011, Laura founded her own business, Vermilion Music, her ambition being to provide music for all occasions. One of her most exciting appearances was at the Canberra branch of Dr Sketchy’s (and underground anti-art school live drawing event). Laura had also worked with the Campbelltown Arts Centre’s 2012 Visiting Artist, Chiara Guidi, from the Italian Theatre Company, Societas Raffaello Sanzio. Along with four other musicians and five actors, Laura was involved in the experimental children’s show Jack and the Beanstalk – a Musical Fairy Tale. In 2014, Laura appeared with SHE as part of the opening ceremony for the World Harp Congress in Sydney.
This year, Laura will again join the Griffyn Ensemble in their performances around Canberra as well as in Scotland.
