Hanna Kinnunen studied the flute at the Sibelius Academy with Ilpo Masnerus and Liisa Ruoho, and also in Paris with Claude Lefebvren and Catherine Cantine. She has attended masterclasses with Aurèle Nicolet, Alain Marion, Emmanuel Pahud, Sophie Cherrier and Camilla Hoitenga, among others.
Kinnunen has worked as a substitute flautist in many orchestras, including the Tampere Philharmonic (2002–03) and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (2003–06). She has performed with Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta and the Helsinki Festival Orchestra.
As a chamber musician she has appeared in numerous festivals in Finland and elsewhere in Europe. Kinnunen is currently undertaking doctoral studies at the Sibelius Academy, with a focus on contemporary music. She works as a departmental assistant in the Academy's DocMus unit and is also a member of the nationwide Music and Theatrical Arts Research Institute.
