Melina van Leeuwen

A recipient of a National Undergraduate Scholarship at the Australian National University, Melina completed a Bachelor of Music in 2012 with a High Distinction average under the tutelage of Alice Giles. Previously, Melina studied with Xanya Mamunya and Jacinta Dennett. In 2013 Melina became the second harpist to be awarded a scholarship to study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

At the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School Melina received first prize in the Chamber Music Competition (guitar/harp duo), placed second in the Pioneer Outstanding Soloist Competition and was awarded the Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship. She has played with ensembles from the Australian Youth Orchestra, Melbourne University, Victorian College of the Arts, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, and is a member of Australia’s Seven Harp Ensemble. 

Melina performed as a featured soloist at the Australian Pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China. She received first prize in the ANU Chamber Music Competition and was a finalist in the 2013 ANAM Chamber Music Competition. She has played in live ABC broadcasts, including in numerous ANAM 2013 projects, with Halcyon (‘Life on Paper’, 2011) and the HUSH Music Foundation (ABC Sunday Live series 2012).
