Mauricio Carrasco

Mauricio Carrasco earned his diploma in classical guitar with high distinction from the Catholic University in Santiago under Oscar Ohlsen and Luis Orlandini. He pursued further studies at Geneva Conservatoire under Maria Livia São Marcos, where he was awarded his soloist diploma with distinction, and as one half of Geneva Guitar Duo he obtained a postgraduate diploma in contemporary chamber music with distinction under Jean-Jacques Balet.

Mauricio is a founding member of Ensemble Vortex, and one half of carrasco+zea=guitar+electronics with Colombian composer Daniel Zea. He performs as a guest with other ensembles, orchestras and in solo recital programs. His awards include Gaudeamus in the Netherlands and Accademia dei Concordi and Mauro Giuliani in Italy.

In 2008 he was City of Geneva/Fondation Simón Patiño resident at Cité des Arts in Paris and has been in residence several times at Centre Intermondes in La Rochelle since 2010. Based in Melbourne, Mauricio is currently a PhD candidate at Melbourne University. He is founding guitarist for Argonaut and BIFEM’s Artistic Associate. With a principal interest in contemporary music, Mauricio has premiered over 50 new works, collaborating with composers of diverse origin and generation and increasingly in multidisciplinary contexts.
