Kaylie Melville is a Melbourne-based percussionist with a keen interest in ensemble performance and new music. Currently in her second year of study at the Australian National Academy of Music, Kaylie is also completing a Master of Music (Research) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of Peter Neville and John Arcaro.
Kaylie has performed extensively with Australian percussion ensembles Defying Gravity and Quadraphonic, and was selected as one of Speak Percussion’s Emerging Artists in both 2010 and 2012. She travelled to the United States in 2010 to perform at the Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention, and again in 2013 to study for two weeks with Brooklyn-based quartet Sō Percussion at Princeton University.
In June 2014 she launched the Bricolage Collective, a group focused on working with young composers to create new works for percussion ensemble. As well as working as a freelance musician with orchestras and ensembles across Australia, Kaylie regularly performs with brass pop band Crookshank and the contemporary sextet Rubiks. She is delighted to return to BIFEM in 2014 after performing with the Argonaut Ensemble in the festival’s inaugural season.
