Elizabeth Welsh

Lizzy Welsh is a violinist and baroque violinist based in Melbourne. Having commenced violin studies with Louise Ray while growing up in Castlemaine, Victoria, Lizzy has since studied modern violin with Monica Curro, Zoe Black and Anna McMichael in Melbourne and with Ursula Maria Berg in Cologne, Germany. Lizzy has also studied baroque violin with Julia Fredersdorff. In early 2013, Lizzy travelled to California, undertaking lessons with the esteemed Hungarian contemporary music specialist, the late János Négyesy, and performing in Springfest in association with the University of California, San Diego.

Lizzy has performed as an orchestral violinist with the Victorian Opera, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Oz Opera, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Pops Orchestra. As a baroque violinist, Lizzy performs regularly with Ludovico’s Band, Gloriana Choir and the Australian Chamber Choir.

Having a keen interest in new music, Lizzy has performed with Golden Fur New Music Project, ELISION Ensemble, the Atticus string quartet and the Australian Art Orchestra and has collaborated with many Melbourne and international composers and performers including: Liza Lim, Anthony Pateras, John Zorn, James Rushford, Judith Hamann, Jon Rose, Kate Neal, Alexander Garsden, Erkki Veltheim, Joe Talia, David Chisholm, Oren Ambarchi, James Hullick, Mary Finsterer, Paul Grabowsky, Kim Tan and Samuel Dunscombe.

Lizzy is a founding member of the Melbourne experimental band, Blood Red Bird.
