Dan Richardson is a freelance percussionist from Melbourne. Since completing studies with Guy du Blêt and Peter Neville at the Victorian College of the Arts, Dan has worked professionally across many genres and platforms. Along the way he has toured Europe as principal percussionist of the Australian Youth Orchestra, accompanied the original Elvis band, and marched around on stage as a ring-in for the Love Never Dies orchestra.
Dan is a regular guest with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and often accompanies the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia as Orchestra Victoria’s guest timpanist. He also performs with Syzygy Ensemble, Speak Percussion, 3 Shades Black and Gamelan DanAnda. On a more permanent basis, Dan is the drummer/percussionist for the Serbian folk ensemble Anja and Zlatna, the exotica chamber orchestra Slide Night, the experimental pop quartet Comfort Creature, and the alt-country Dan Waters Band, the members of which are pressuring him to both purchase and then wear a cowboy hat.
Often prone to distraction, Dan completed a major in atmospheric sciences in 2011, after attending an interesting public lecture five years earlier. He now declines invitations to public lectures, but will happily discuss global climate with you for as many hours as you have.
