Arturo Corrales

Arturo Corrales began painting and music in childhood. He acquired a degree in architecture as well as his first music studies in his hometown of San Salvador (guitar, keyboards, theory with German Cáceres and Joseph-Karl Doetsch).

He concluded his studies in Geneva and Lugano, studying composition with Eric Gaudibert, Nicolas Bolens, Michael Jarrell and Nadir Vassena, electroacoustics with Rainer Boesch, Luis Naón, Eric Daubresse, and orchestral conducting with Giorgio Bernasconi.

Price Edmund Pendleton 2004, He is co-founder of the Ensemble Vortex in Geneva, and has a Master of Musicology from the University Paris VIII, studying under the composer Horacio Vaggione.

Of determinedly experimental conception, his creative work is often inspired by ethnic and popular music. Constantly attentive to the formal coherence of his works, to the control of their projection in space and time, he wants to facilitate the expression and the perception of a ‘livable and human’ music.

Apart from his activities of composer, interpreter and conductor, Arturo Corrales teaches the guitar and is a Professor of Composition and Analysis in the Conservatoire Populaire de Genève. He is writing a doctoral thesis on the theme of musical figures.
