Violinist Aaron Barnden has been performing professionally since 1998, in Melbourne and overseas. He studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (receiving the Westpac Scholarship for most promising student) and the Victorian College of the Arts (completing his Bachelor of Music in 1997). Aaron was also a student in the Advanced Performance Program at the Australian National Academy of Music in 1999 and received his Master of Music degree (in Performance) from the University of Melbourne in 2001.
Aaron has worked for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany). He regularly leads the Australian Philharmonic/Pops Orchestra and the Southern Cross Philharmonia Orchestra. He has also taught violin at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary College and privately.
Apart from his study in the traditional classical repertoire, Aaron has studied keyboard improvisation (at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with Alan Slater, and privately with Andrea Keller in Melbourne) and performs in bands specialising in a variety of genres, such as Tango, Fado, Mariachi and various contemporary styles. He is heavily involved in Australia’s New Music scene, working in ensembles such as Arcko, Astra and the Silo String quartet, with whom he performed at Carnegie Hall in 2008.
